Pedro Baseball Academy

The Action-Packed, NYC Baseball Camp.

What is Pedro Baseball Academy or "Pedro Camp?"

Pedro Baseball Academy, better known as Pedro Camp, is an NYC-based Baseball Camp that focuses on helping baseball players of all ages get better at their craft. Created in the summer of 2015 by Pedro Nuñez, a longtime baseball coach and current head coach of the West Side Hawks 18U, 14U, and 12U teams, Pedro Camp provides opportunities for competitive athletes to learn from elite coaches and players from all around New York. Currently, Pedro Camp welcomes 20-30 hard-working players almost every day, and carries a wide variety of coaches, both young and old, who push athletes to better themselves every single session.

Where and When?

Pedro Camp is located on the south side of the 103rd street turf Baseball field in Riverside Park. Since the park is accessible to anyone, Coach Nuñez arrives to the field early to reserve the cages as well as a large area of the field. The camp day formally starts at 9AM but since our players are competitive and hungry to get better, they tend to come earlier! Campers stay till around 1PM at which point parents and/or caregivers arrive to see their children enjoying a well-deserved lunch.

What does the average Pedro Camp day look like?

Usually we begin with some light running and stretching and then transition to hitting in the cages. Players can choose to work off the tee or hit front toss depending on their preferences. We utilize both cages, one is for younger, less experienced players and the other is for older, stronger athletes.

After the players hit, we transition to fielding. Infielders begin by taking slow ground-balls in order to work on their footwork and fundamentals. Then, they take harder grounders to not only practice their reaction time, but to also simulate real-game situations. Outfielders take pop-ups and work on their back step and judging the ball off of contact. Catchers work on their blocking skills and eventually work with pitchers later in the day.

Through conditioning, our athletes learn how to develop a mature work-ethic, leading to a stronger character. To keep players fit and ready to compete for their travel programs, we implement a demanding workout that consists of ladders, band-work, weighted sprints, suicides, burpees, pushups, long-jumps, sand-box runs and so much more! Your child will come home exhausted and sore but they will have developed an understanding of the importance of being in peak physical condition.
